DAVID MIŠIČ, STYRIA
David Mišič attended the High School for Design and Photography in Ljubljana, Slovenia from 1990 to 1994. Later on he studied architecture at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna where, during his second year, he received a special reward AKdBK-Vienna for most successful student, which is awarded by the Diplomatic Academy of Vienna. He was also awarded the AKdBK scholarship which is an Extraordinary scholarship for foreign students.
He graduated with all honors in the year 2000 when he completed his Architecture studies, with the help of his mentors prof. dr. Dr. Gustav Peichl, prof.dr. Nasrine Seraj and prof. dr Rudiger Leiner, and received the “Carl Appel – Preis” award. He completed his Architectural internship with the rector of the Diplomatic Academy of Vienna and architect prof. dr Carl Pruscha at his office “Studio for Habitat and Environment”.
He continued his education at the Doctoral School of Architecture at the Graz University of Technology.
As of 2001, he is in charge of the Styra Architecture office along with his father Ljubo Mišič and coworkers. In 2003 he became a member of the Slovenian Chamber of Architecture and Spatial Planning and then he also became an authorized architect and project leader of architecture plans for complex, less complex and simple structures.
David Mišič and his coworkers are authors of many important public facilities such as the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, many multi-apartment buildings, commercial buildings, schooling facilities and residential houses. He was also nominated for the European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture “Mies van der Rohe” award in the year 2011, for his restoration project on the Castle Hompoš, The Faculty of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
His completed works include many solutions for competition projects such as the proposal for the University of Ljubljana, the National University Library NUK II facility and many other public kindergartens and schools.
Styria Architecture won the first prize for its urban and architectural solution of the Foranč area in Piran and the center area of Strunjan.
Many important public facilities were built after plans created by the Styria Architecture office, such as the Cultural Center of Arnold Tovornik with a library in Selinca ob Dravi, the Emergency Center Novo Mesto, the Department of Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine in Maribor, the renovation of the Baroness house in Maribor and the revitalization of the Vrhe farm near Slovenj Gradec.
Active projects that the office has in progress at the moment are the facilities for the Nova Gorica High School, the Elementary School Lavrica in the municipality of Škofljica and the Scientific Research Institute SAZU at Ig near Ljubljana.
